Ethan Vornes is the Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Optima Global, responsible for directing the firm’s investment strategy, research, and portfolio management. With 27 years of global market experience, and now in his early 50s, Ethan is widely recognized for his expertise in quantitative strategies and digital assets. He specializes in combining systematic models with fundamental analysis to identify opportunities across equities, fixed income, alternatives, and the rapidly expanding cryptocurrency markets.
At Optima Global, Ethan has been a driving force in building the firm’s quantitative framework, advancing its risk management processes, and expanding into blockchain-based assets. He spearheaded the launch of Optima Global’s Digital Asset Initiative, which integrates algorithmic trading, blockchain analytics, and tokenized investment strategies. His approach emphasizes disciplined allocation, process-driven decision-making, and the belief that long-term value creation comes from innovation combined with rigorous analysis.
Before co-founding Optima Global, Ethan served as a Managing Director at Goldman Sachs Asset Management, where he led quantitative research and developed systematic portfolio solutions for institutional clients. Earlier in his career, he was among the first to apply factor-based and quantitative methods to alternative markets — a foundation that positioned him to anticipate the rise of crypto and decentralized finance as institutional asset classes.
Ethan earned a B.S. in Finance from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and later completed both an M.B.A. and a Ph.D. in Finance at the University of Chicago.
